How I started triathlon?

This is me in 2024. As you can see, I was overweight with (90kg). During hot days (which is usual in Tashkent, Uzbekistan), during walking upstairs and everyday life I felt the disadvantages of being an overweight. Constant running out of breath, sweating, discomfort, ugly belly fat.

After that, I realized that I should lose weight. Started with simple gym sessions and swimming.

Moving forward

In 6 months I saw a clear progress. From 90kg I lost 15kg and weighed 75kg. People around me noticed this positive change and asked what the secret was.

There was no secret. I just excluded sugar, dough and junk food from my nutrition and started being active. This is the 95% of the result

Then my running journey started. Influenced by my colleagues at Alif Uzbekistan, Ulugbek Khalilov and Ulugbek Sharipov.

I really loved running. It helped me to be lonely with my thoughts, to feel happy after 9-5 office job schedule and to make new friends

Now we constantly take part in local and international running events with colleagues

Buying a bike

After spending some time in swimming and running, I found out about a sport called triathlon. It is a combination of swimming, running and cycling. The only missing part of mine was cycling. That's why I decided to buy a road bike. Having explored the prices of road bikes I decided to start with a used one.

This is my first ever road bike. Bought for $350. Decent bike. Rode on it more than 1000km including multiple 100km rides to Charvak and Tuyabugiz reservoirs

Taking it serious

Once I got all rings of Thanos, I signed up for my first triathlon race. It was a sprint distance: 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run. Very short distance and comfortable to start.

The most difficult part for me was open water swimming. To address this fear I joined a local triathlon club's open water swimming sessions in Charvak reservoir. Huge thanks to the coach Shohruh Yunusov for having me.

I trained 5-6 days a week. Enjoyed the process. Everything went smooth. I really loved triathlon.

Moreover, I encouraged my buddy Javohir to do triathlon and he agreed. We did lots of workouts together. This made triathlon even better

Samarkand Challenge

On August 23, 2025 I did my first triathlon race in Samarkand, Uzbekistan under Challenge Family event. Finish time was 1 hour, 27 minutes. Decent average finish time.

The emotions of the race day was inexplicable.

Currently, I'm getting ready for the Samarkand Challenge Middle distance 2026. Middle distance is 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run. My target is to finish between 5:30 - 6:00.

Now, I run around 30-40km a week, ride a bike on my smart bike trainer at home for better power accuracy and swim 2 times a week at the pool. Being active helps me to stay fit, be in a good mood and find peace of mind.
